Marine Corps Nomads Goes International

Posted in Family, and Military Life

At the end of January, I briefly mentioned getting reading for some big changes, but I didn’t give any details at the time. Well, it’s finally time to make the announcement because it’s “military” official. Marine Corps Nomads (pending medical clearance for the family) is heading to Japan. Yes, it’s a huge and unexpected change for us as this was not in our plans. We’ve been slowly starting the process of getting ready as we awaited confirmation of orders. This duty station, while affording many new opportunities, was not something that we really wanted for a variety of reasons, but…

Adventures in Puppyland: 1st Hiking Trip

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

We were thrilled when D decided that he finally felt up to hiking again as it had been a long time since we’ve been able to go hiking together as a family. Even when he was able to go hiking previously, due to his back issues, he was unable to even carry his own hydration pack. I was happy that he could now carry his own pack, and he wanted to tackle a longer hike with the pups. Based upon our regular walks, we knew that the pups would enjoy hiking to some extent. About the Author: Anna Patricio is a lover of ancient history, with a particular interest in Egypt, Israel, Greece, and Rome. She is also intrigued by the Ancient Near East, though she has not delved too much into it but hopes to one day. She undertook formal studies in Ancient History at Macquarie University. She focused mostly on Egyptology and Jewish-Christian Studies, alongside a couple of Greco-Roman units, and one on Archaeology. Though she knew there were very limited job openings for ancient history graduates, she pursued her degree anyway as it was something she had always been passionate about. Then, about a year after her graduation, the…

Adventures in Puppyland: 1st Camping Trip

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Our Bear loved camping from the first time that we took him out. He just loved being outdoors. As he got older, he preferred camping in the trailer over tent camping which is completely understandable. I mean sleeping on a bed is much easier on an older body than sleeping on the hard ground. As we said goodbye to our beloved pet in December, we also felt the grief of not being able to take him out camping one last time. When we rescued Wiley and then adopted Wyatt, we were hoping that they too would embrace our adventurous spirit. This past…

Gluten Free Dark Chocolate Popcorn

Posted in Gluten Free

Salty ~ Sweet ~ Crunchy While it may sound a little odd, chocolate popcorn is really good, and it’s easy to make. For this batch, I made a tasty dark chocolate popcorn. I did use a higher quality chocolate as I wanted it to be special for our Valentine’s Day treat. I like the bitterness of dark chocolate mixed with the salty, crunchy popcorn. As you’re deciding which type of chocolate to use for your chocolate popcorn, you’ll want to keep in mind the taste preferences of those who will be eating the chocolate popcorn. Munchkin isn’t a big dark…
