Just Visiting

sitting in the cage visitingProject 365 – #249

When you have newborns in the house (whether human or otherwise), visitors are never far behind.  Munchkin and her friend are very much enjoying spending time with the babies.  They still like to hide a good bit of the time, but if you just spend some time in their cage, they will apparently come out to play.  (The lighting on the picture above is off, but I still like it as it captures the moment.)

Me? Well, I’d rather not get in the cage. lol!  I just get to see them whenever they come out or if I get them out to do their daily weigh-in.  I have been spending extra time hold Choco (the dad) as he’s feeling a little left out at the moment.  His quarantine cage is right next to the other cage, so he can at least see his girl and the kids.  He’s a good papa and always answers the little cries of the kids.  Needless to say, there is a good bit of squeaking going on out our house.

Munchkin tends to spend most of her time in the area with the cages, so she can watch them while she does her other work and play activities.

This whole thing has been quite the learning experience.  While we’ve had guinea pigs before, we’ve never dealt with these aspects of owning guinea pigs.  We’re all learning quite a bit about the care of guinea pigs as well as their babies through this process.  Because we do not use normal guinea pig pellets (they contain wheat), we’ve had to make sure that our fresh fruit/veggies supplements to their hay contain all the nutrients they need to keep them healthy.  Lactating and baby guinea pigs need additional nutrients, so we’ve been learning all over again.  Yep, it’s definitely a fun learning adventure.

    • Yes, they’re in the house. It’s way too hot outside for them. They are very sensitive to temperature changes. As long as you keep their cage(s) clean, they do not stink. (Sometimes, the male guinea pigs will stink due their “musk”, but that hasn’t been our experience.)
