Christopher Columbus Lapbook and Notebook Study

Posted in Homeschooling

Columbus Lapbook Cover

My blogging friend Rodna over at Training Children up for Christ asks me if I had a lapbook study on Christopher Columbus.  It was said a bit tongue in cheek as she didn’t really expect the answer to be yes.  (We were talking about the Little House lapbook series that I had done.)  Well, it just so happened that I had made one up a couple of years ago (or so), but I had never got around to preparing it for posting on my blog like I had done with the Little House lapbooks and other lapbooks.  (There are several that I never posted, so I really need to work on getting those ready for posting as well.)

Columbus Lapbook

Since I needed to do some converting of file types anyway, I chose to update the study to include notebook pages as well as the lapbook booklets, so you get to decide which style you’d prefer to use.  Maybe you can use a little bit of both?  This study does require some research on the part of the user as I did not include a research/study guide.  It just contains the questions that went with the lapbook and now notebook pages.  It also contains a couple of links to some activities that we did during the study.  Unfortunately, some of the original links we used no longer worked, so I went ahead and removed them.

Columbus Notebook Pages

Now that I’ve updated this to include notebook pages, I’m considering using it again with Munchkin for a Columbus Day study.  Let me know what you think of the free Christopher Columbus Lapbook and Notebook Study.

New to lapbooking? Check out my Lapbooking Made Easy series.

The Christopher Columbus lapbook with notebooking pages is now part of the Marine Corps Nomads Homeschool Resource Library. They’re still free, but they’re now hosted right here. All of the free homeschool resources are available in one easy-access location. You can sign up for free access to the resource library below.

If you have friends or family who are interested in these free resources, please have them sign up as well. Thanks for your support!

    • We really had fun with lapbooking. We’re now doing more of a lapbooking/notebooking type thing as Munchkin prefers not to cut out so many pieces. lol!

  3. I’m going to bookmark this page as we are going to study Columbus, the United States and the U.S. Presidents this year. This is my lucky day. I’m always making printables for my homeschool, but now you’ve done all of the work for me.

We don’t make lapbooks but all of these resources will be adapted into our day and into our journal writing time. 🙂

Hi Heather! I am new to you blog/website and really love what you have going on here! Question regarding your MOH notebooking pages: Are these for multiple ages, or do they focus only on a certain age range? Thanks for sharing with us, God bless!

    • My notebooking items do not have a specified age range. They work for pretty much anyone who can use them.

Love that you included both Lapbook and notebook pages. I have a 10 y.o. and 4 y.o. We do both. My 10 y.o. uses a regular folder with some notebooking/poetry/research/math in the clips in the folder and some of the Lapbook booklets on the inside cover and pockets. That way, I can choose what she should do for the study. Things too easy for her, she help the 4 y.o. with. So she doesn’t miss out on any really fun coloring and pasting. 🙂

It looks just like what we need to round out our daughter’s Columbus kit. Unfortunately I cannot seem to print anything either from this or the three dinosaur site 🙁 But now I have some great ideas. Thank you!

Thank you thank you thank you!!! My son is studying Columbus with My Father’s World Adventures and it’s just not sticking for him. He likes lapbooks so I’ve been searching for one for a few days now. Yours is the first one I’ve come across and it looks nearly perfect for him. Thank you so much!

I just printed the Columbus pack, we are excited to study this and see the ships! Did you just choose age appropriate Vocab words? We are just embarking on Note/Lapbooking. I am teaching a 6th and 4th grader, boys. They have grown to loathe workbooks, so I am really loving this new (to me) path we are on! Your blog is so helpful!

  18. I just printed it all out! We checked out several books on explorers from the library and I told him to pick one to study. My 5th grader will use the lapbook to collect information and then he will draw a comic book about Christopher Columbus. Thank you so much for this invaluable resource for him!

Thank you so much for your sharing of this material. Just a thought though: Columbus did not think the Earth was round while everyone else thought it was flat. Columbus did not think that Eratosthenes’s (276-194BC) calculations were correct and he thought the Earth was smaller than it really was. Therefore, he thought sailing West would give him a quicker trade route to India. He was wrong… No one at the time thought the Earth was flat. It makes for a good story, but bad history. I just thought you should know.

    • There are two different things available for download – a lapbook and notebooking pages. You can use just a lapbook, just the notebooking pages, or a combination of two.
