Sewing: Cricut Dust Cover & Bag

Posted in Homemaking

One of the fun things about having a more relaxed schooling schedule for December is that we can tackle some fun projects that get placed on the back burner during the regular school year.  My project for today wasn’t exactly an old project that needed to get done, but it was something that I was happy to accomplish.

Cricut Dust Cover with Bag

Since it’s so dusty here, I thought it would be a good idea to have a dust cover for my new Cricut.  I look around on the internet to see if I could find a pattern, but the one that I found wasn’t really what I had in mind.  Most of the patterns were for the Cricut Expression, and I have the smaller personal Cricut.  So, I decided to figure something out on my own.  With a bit of trial and error, I came up with a dust cover and little bag for the cord.  I should have made the cover a little longer so the elastic would pull under the unit a little more.  Overall, I’m pleased with the results.

I used some of the fabric from our Black Friday shopping trip to JoAnn Fabrics.  I decided that I wanted to use two different fabrics to add a little contrast.

Cricut Cover Handle Up

I wanted to make sure that I was able to use the handle, so I made a ruffled flap.  The ruffle allows the flap to go back in place when the handle is up.  I also decided to make a little coordinating fabric bag with pull strings to store the power cords while not in use.

Munchkin really liked the little fabric bag and wants to learn how to make them.  She has some different uses in mind for them, so we’ll try to tackle making some of them at some point this month.  I think she has gift giving in mind, so we’ll need to get started sooner rather than later.

What types of projects do you like to tackle when you have some down time?

  1. That turned out really nice. I have wanted to do this for a few years…..It will probably be a few years before I get to it.
