My Thoughts:

Karen Kingsbury is an excellent author.  Her fictional stories make readers feel like part of the story.  It’s easy to identify with the characters.

Unlocked is one of the best that I’ve read by Karen. Karen tackles two very difficult topics, autism and suicide, and handles them with care.  In addition to these topics, she addresses how we can all be locked in our own worlds in different ways.

Even though I’ve personally known families with autistic children, I walked away with a better understanding of what some parents of an autistic child deal with on a daily basis.  Obviously, I had no problem believing the characters in the book.  I’m sure part of this has to do with the fact that Holden’s character was based upon an autistic child in Karen’s kid’s Christian Youth Theater group.

Be prepared to be drawn into the book, the characters, and the lives of Holden, his family, and Ella.  Just be warned that if you are like me, you may not want to put down the book until it is finished.

  1. Karen Kingsbury is one of my favorite authors. My Mom just shared this book with me and also said it is hard to put down once you get started reading it. I’m saving it for our road trip next week.
