Review: Taking Back Astronomy

Posted in Reviews

Taking Back AstronomyJason Lisle has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the University of Colorado.  He believes that the scientific evidence of astronomy is in harmony with what the Bible teaches us.  He believes that science and faith are not mutually exclusive.  Since very little has been written about the field of astronomy from a Biblical creation perspective, he decided to write Taking Back Astronomy.

About the Book:

Take a breathtaking look at the universe in this comprehensive guide to the heavens! Sit back and explore the world at your fingertips in this book.

Each of us has a world view – a way of thinking about the world in which we live. We all have certain beliefs: ideas that we hold to be true. These belies affect how we see the world and how we interpret the things we experience.

This is the heart of the creation versus evolution debate. Many people think the debate is about evidence, and although the evidence is important, evidence is always interpreted through a person’s world view. So the debate is really about world views.  The debate is over which interpretation of the evidence is best.

The heart of the issue is whether we start from the foundation of the Bible, or the foundation of naturalism.

My Thoughts:

Taking Back Astronomy is written at a high school reading level, but I believe that younger students could understand and enjoy the concepts if the book was read at a slower pace.  Dr. Lisle breaks down concepts in order to make them more understandable.  Through the use of illustrations, readers are able to grasp difficult ideas such as the size of the universe.

The book is broken down into 5 chapters:

  • The splendor of God’s creation
  • The universe confirms the Bible
  • The age of the universe
  • The Bible and modern astronomy
  • War of the world views

Each chapter contains beautiful images of our universe and easy to understand information about various aspects of astronomy and our universe.  All information is presented from a Biblical world view.

If you’re looking for an astronomy resource presented from a Biblical world view, this would be a great book to have on hand.
