Puppy

A Friend Like That

I talk to him when I’m lonesome like;
and I’m sure he understands.
When he looks at me so attentively,
and gently licks my hands;
then he rubs his nose on my tailored clothes,
but I never say naught thereat.
For the good Lord knows I can buy more clothes,
but never a friend like that.

~W. Dayton Wedgefarth~

We are definitely dog people.  Our “puppy” joined our family shortly after D and I were married.  Since the day we brought him home from the humane society, he has never wanted to be alone.  He loves being around us.  He sleeps on our bed at night.  He’s always positioned in a manner, so he can protect me.  When D is away, he’s an excellent protector.

It’s rather sad to see him get older and slow down a bit.  He can no longer easily hop up onto the bed.  Most nights, I find myself lifting him up onto the bed.  He can’t jump into the vehicles on his own anymore.  There was a time that he was so spry that he jumped into the engine compartment on my vehicle in his excitement to get going on the trip.  We still laugh as he chases his tail and catches it.

We feel blessed to have a special “puppy” in our lives.  Today, I am very grateful for the blessing of the pet that the Lord has brought into our lives.  He’s given us lots of love, laughs, dedication, and affection.  We look forward to spending more time with our precious “puppy”.

  6. My dog is 10, and we have the same thing with helping into the taller car (she can still jump into my station wagon with a running start); I’ve had dogs all my life (I’m 50 now), and they are a GREAT blessing and gift from God!

    Thanks for sharing today!

  7. Wow! What a great photo! We have cats.. Our fat cat needs steps to get up on the bed now – but every night I have two kitties curled up with me. They follow me around, and I have one in my arms or my lap all day. Our furry friends are such a joy.
