Bringing Up Bobby Review and Giveaway

Posted in Reviews

Bringing Up Bobby is a different sort of comedy/drama.  Bobby’s parents died when he was just a young child.  His eldest brother, James, took care of Bobby and his sister, Andrea, and his brother, Dennis.  Andrea is a greedy, selfish person who wants to inherit everything in the will.  She bosses around her husband and pretty much everyone around her.  Dennis (aka The Dennis) has been a drug addict and hates to follow the rules of society.  The Anarchists are after him, so he wants to get his share of the inheritance to pay to the Anarchists.

On Bobby’s 16th birthday, the estranged family comes together to listen to the reading of the will of Bobby’s parents.  During all of the craziness, James is encouraging Bobby to figure out who he really is, and what is important in his life.  He encourages him to give his life to the Lord.  Bobby is confused by it all including the new girl, Liz, who won’t date him because he isn’t a Christian.  She wants him to figure out who he is, and prove that he likes her.

Bringing Up Bobby is a crazy, different kind of comedy that addresses some difficult topics for teens.  James tries to live his life in a way that would be pleasing to the Lord and a good example to Bobby.  While Bobby’s life may be far from perfect, he ultimately comes to realize that compared to some of his other friends he is blessed.

D and I watched this movie and thought it was different.  While it’s definitely not the type of movie that we would normally watch, we felt that the movie had a good message, and it had it’s funny moments.    If you like odd comedies with a Christian message, then you may enjoy this movie.  The clean humor would make it watchable by Munchkin, but honestly, it’s not something that she would enjoy personally.
