5 Lessons Every Kid Should Learn

Growing up, there are many life lessons that kids need to learn.  It’s our job as parents to teach our children.  Some of the lessons that I believe are most important are:

1.  Love the Lord with all your heart, mind, and soul.

When we teach our kids to love the Lord, truly love the Lord, all other things start to fall into place.  Life will not be perfect, but when the focus is on the Lord, life is just a little bit easier to handle.

2.  Love others as you love yourself.

When kids have a servant’s heart, they are less likely to be selfish and always focusing on their wants and needs.

3.  After the Lord, family comes first.

It’s extremely easy to get caught up in all of the activities that are available outside of the home. We need to bring the focus back to home and family.  Kids are more secure when they have a solid home life and feel loved.  If we teach them the value of family first, they are more likely to feel grounded, safe, and secure.

4.  Treat others with respect.

Have you noticed how little respect people afford to others these days.  What a horrible example we, as adults, are setting for our children.  We need to teach by example.  By teaching our children to respect others, we are preparing them to help transform what is becoming a very selfish, disrespectful society.

5.  Keep personal information personal.

In this technological age, there is so much information available out there.  We don’t need to share every intimate detail of our lives with others.  We need to teach our kids to guard their privacy.  They need to learn that sharing all of their personal information is not safe.  Once that information is on the web, it can’t be taken back.

As parents, we’ve been given a huge responsibility to raise our children.  It’s a task that can be fun, daunting, crazy, and rewarding.

Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

  3. Love the words of advice. Guarding privacy online is a big issue between dh and I. He’d prefer no facebook, no blog, etc. I compromise and leave the kids’ names off the blog.
