Normally, I am not one to talk about feminine matters on my blog, but when I was given the opportunity to review The Dot Girl’s First Period Kit, I knew that I would make an exception for this product. Menstruation is a fact of life for girls, so I liked the idea of a kit that might make things a little easier for Munchkin.
As tweens/teens, many girls enter this part of their lives with a little concern and hesitation. They may be a bit embarrassed by the changes going on with their bodies, and they probably don’t want everyone to know about all of the changes. They may be a little confused by their feelings, so anything that can make this transition a little easier is wonderful.
The Dot Girl’s First Period kit has everything a girl will need as they prepare for their first period all contained in a stylish pink or blue carrying case. Moms can use the kit as a way to open up communication about menstruation and as a way to welcome this event (instead of dreading it).
- Pink or Blue carrying case
- Coupon for a free Kotex product
- Small round reusuable heating pad
- Scensibles – small scented bags for disposal of feminine products
- Period Calendar – year calendar for tracking cycle
- First Period Guide – small informational guide about the menstrual cycle
- 2 Kotex lightdays individually wrapped liners – long
- 1 Kotex Ultra Thin Pads with wings
- 2 Sani Hands hand wipes
The Dot Girl’s First Period Kit is available in blue or pink for $22.99. Bulk discounts are available.
Our Thoughts:
Munchkin: As an 11-year-old girl, I like that the carrying case is a discreet way to contain all of the necessities. I also like that is comes in a nice pink or blue color. (She chose the pink case.) The sample items will help make decisions about products to be used. I would like a little more variety in the samples though, so I could make a more informed choice in products.
Mom: I think this kit is an excellent idea. The tween/teen will have everything that they need all contained in a nice, small carrying case. I can see why it was a Mom’s Choice Awards® Gold Recipient. The information in the guide is thorough without being overly detailed. It gives the mom the opportunity to go into more detail as desired, when desired.
The kit could be used in several different ways such as:
- When the mom and daughter sit down to have a talk about the changes the daughter is going through, the mom could present the kit as a gift. They could talk about what is said in the booklet, or the daughter could read the booklet and ask mom any questions she may have.
- When the daughter starts her period, mom could give her the kit as a nice celebration gift. Instead of dreading the event, a mom and daughter could celebrate that big day. They could cuddle under warm, cozy blankets and watch a movie while eating popcorn.
However the kit is used, I think it would be a great asset for a tween/teen girl.

I think this kit is great because it helps me help my daughter be prepared. I was wondering what products would be appropriate for a young girl to use, and here they are in the kit.

This is a cute idea!
I think the kit offers a great way to break the ice with your pre-teen. My daughter must be getting close (if mother nature does not kick in soon, I’m going to lock my daughter in the closet with all these mood swings) and I think this would be a helpful resource for her.
I like that it comes with products to try
