Grand Canyon Adventure: Keyhole Loop Trail

Posted in Family

Another stop during our Grand Canyon Adventure was a little trail called Keyhole Loop Trail.  It’s located in Kaibob National Forest right outside of Williams, Arizona.  We stopped by to see the park ranger to see if he had any maps of the local trails.  He informed us that many of the trails were still closed due to slow, so we’d want to be careful while hiking.  He then went on to recommend the Keyhole Loop Trail because it had something special to see at the end of the trail….

Munchkin and Puppy

We hiked and hiked over snow banks, through the mud, and over the streams created by melting snow.  Then we arrived at the end of the trail, and this is what we saw….

Keyhole Loop Trail

Small Waterfall

This small waterfall is created by all of the melting snow from the mountains.  It was a beautiful sight.  We could hear the frogs/toads croaking and the birds singing.  There were different signs of wildlife around the water and various forms of wildlife in the water.  Yet, we were still looking for something – the something special that had lead us here….

Looking at the wall

Can you see what we found with some searching?  Look closely at the wall.  Still hard to see?  Let me give you a few close-ups….

Indian Petroglyphs 1

Indian Petroglyphs 2

Indian Petroglyphs 3

It was fun seeing all of the Indian Petroglyphs in a natural setting.  It was worth the hike back into the forest.  We didn’t expect to see so many in one location.  On the way out, we found one other fun thing in a small cave formed in the rock walls….

Ice Cave

We thought these ice formations were rather pretty.  We were a bit surprised to see so much ice and snow during our hike, but Munchkin felt it added to our fun adventure.   As you can see in the previous pictures, Puppy had lots of fun joining us during this exploration.  Even though he’s getting up there in years, he had no problem keeping up with us.  He managed to get over and around the rock formation better than I did.  It was lots of fun.

Don’t forget to check more of our Grand Canyon Adventures.
