Soccer Happy Dance

Dancing after a Goal

Today was Munchkin’s final soccer game of the season.  It was a beautiful sunny morning with a nice breeze to keep it from being too hot.  Munchkin’s team played hard, worked together, and won their final game.  It was nice to end the season on a positive note.  On Tuesday, they will have the award banquet.

After the game, we headed home to eat some lunch before heading back out.  I decided to make something quick, easy, and light.  I ended up making lots of sandwich wraps because Munchkin and D were rather hungry.  We relaxed for a little while after eating lunch.

While Munchkin got changed into her riding gear, D loaded up the dirt bikes into his truck.  I made sure we had enough water for us and “puppy”.  He really enjoys going out into the desert with us.  I think it’s because he’s free to roam around.  He misses being able to do that now that we’re in base housing.

Once we arrived at our normal location, Munchkin finished putting on her

safety gear and practiced riding around the truck area.  Then, D decided to take Munchkin out on the trails.  All went well for most of the time.  Then, I heard silence.  No sound of the bikes.  Nothing.  The next thing I hear is D talking loudly to Munchkin.  I can see them now, but they aren’t moving.  I know something happened.  Finally, they are both on their bikes and heading back.

Munchkin turns off her bike and heads over to me sobbing.  She’s covered from head to toe with sand.  She takes her helmet off and shows me where her tooth went into her gum.  She has 2 little cuts that are bleeding.  A purple mark is starting to show on her chin.  She pulls up her riding pants and shows me her knee which is slightly scraped (the pants did a great job protecting her) and quickly turning purple.

Once she gets the rest of her gear off, the tears begin to fade and the story unfolds.  She was going down a hill and forgot something she was suppose to do.  The bike went too fast… there were rocks… the bike hits a big rock… the bike goes down… she goes down… it really hurts…

The good thing is that other than a few bumps, scrapes, and cuts, she is okay.  The bike is now broken in and has it’s own battle wounds.  She did get back on the bike and road back to the truck.  While upset and hurt, she did have fun up until that point.  She’s decided that sometimes learning hurts.
